Tristan drinks what he thinks is poison and Isolde does the same. Believing they’re dead, they confess their love for each other when the boat comes alongside. They were supposed to be united in death, now they’re united in love. However their passion turns into a tragedy… This myth about love, medieval story of war, magic and fidelity, later Wagner Opera, pinnacle of the occidental lyrical theater, has always been renewed since its creation. Now it’s Mathieu Bauer, directors of musicals, musician and founder of the Sentimental Bourreau company, who gives his own 21st century version. Banjo, marimba, trumpet, double bass, piano… this adaptation really is original. Besides the text was written by Lancelot Hamelin, a young author from Lyons who has a lyrical and inextinguishable writing.
“There are music and tunes that you meet at some point in your career, and that then accompany you the rest of your life. Tristan and Isolde is one of them”, Mathieu Bauer said. Told like a dream, in snatches, by Tristan, immersed in his story, this Tristan and… will certainly revive timeless echoes of our loves and obsessions, what unites us and what parts us. “This company couldn’t have chosen a better name than Sentimental Bourreau (literally: Sentimental Executioner): they like sentiments, they cherish very edgy stories that they torture to reveal their guts and they also cultivate humour in the way a carnivorous plant would do.” Laurence Liban - L’Express
