Georg Philipp Telemann, Johann Christian Schiefferdecker, Reinhard Keiser, and Georg Friedrich Haendel will see the beautiful adventure between the French soprano Sandrine Piau and the Akademie für Alte Musik grow. Created in 1982 in East Germany as a response to the growing trend of historical interpretation of baroque and classical music, the Akademie für Alte Musik is today one of the best European chamber orchestras in this field. In addition to its active role in the Berliner cultural scene, the orchestra regularly appears on the most prestigious European stages and undertakes tours in Asia and Middle West as well as North and South America. Sandrine Piau is also a big traveler. After having acquired a huge fame in baroque music on the biggest international stages (under the direction of renowned conductors such as William Christie, Christophe Rousset, René Jacobs or Mark Minkowski), she now takes up the classical repertoire with delight. But some say that people remain faithful to their first loves… Here is an example with the masters of the genre and excerpts from the “Orpheus” and “Almira” operas…
“The light on the stage, the brightness, the spirit, it’s Sandrine Piau. Thin, with a little voice but admirably led, an accomplished style, an infallible accuracy, an intense connivance with the conductor, an insolent gift for the stage, the French soprano has all that and, besides, masters the art of the distance, and possesses poetry and grace , which bring about emotion.” La Libre Belgique
