Les Fourberies de Scapin (literally: Scapin’s deceits) by Moliere is a multi-thematic masterpiece with an overwhelming humour. It would be very difficult for someone too academic, too serious and not enough mischievous, to adapt and magnify this marvel. The play has suffered from many morose assaults by unscrupulous directors taking socio-cultural profitability for art, but fortunately hope is coming from Switzerland: Omar Porras and his Teatro Malandro, used to great classical text, seize with characteristic frivolity and joy Les Fourberies de Scapin, which retrieve the lucid vivacity and entertaining manipulation of their origins. Omar Porras reveals the little arrangements of this world just like Moliere, in his own time, liked to heckle the powerful! Scapin is cleared of his rags, like he was in the beginning. We re-discover him: a breathtaking manipulator, charismatic and skilful, always slipping through the net, scoffing at the mighty… Ah! Beautiful time when knights ruled! Scapin, where are you?
“Les Fourberies de Scapin by Teatro Malandro are up to the expectations (…) The actors are perfect in comedy. Amazing rhythm, joy, coarse generosity: Omar Porras and his troupe are having fun.” Le Temps
