LA NUIT DES ROIS
de William Shakespeare

A young woman named Viola gets out of the water. Her twin brother apparently died during the shipwreck she just escaped. Dressed up as a man and bearing the name of Césario, she begins to work for a melancholy man, head over heels in love with a young woman, Olivia. Viola/Césario soon becomes messenger for her master, with whom she falls in love, whereas Olivia succumbs to Cesario’s charm… Twelfth night, such as As you like it or A midsummer night’s dream is a comedy based upon misunderstandings. It refers to the twelfth night after Christmas, during which theatrical celebrations were led by the Lord of Misrule. Behind the game of love and its mistakes, a world made of violence, unsatisfied desires and doubt is revealed; a world where men are dominated by feelings of hatred and desires of revenge. In this confrontation of sanity and insanity, farce and seriousness, one love pushes the play forwards: the passionate love Viola has for her master Orsino. This new creation by Jean-Louis Benoit (manager of the Théâtre National de la Criée) gathers en excellent cast with particularly Nathalie Richard, Dominique Valadié, Ninon Brétécher, Jean-Claude Leguay, Pauline Méreuze…
