ABRAHAM INC
feat, D. KRAKAUER, SOCALLED, F.WESLEY

“My aim is not to let klezmer music in museums, but to create.” The New-Yorker clarinetist David Krakauer opens new ways for klezmer, the music of the Ashkenazi Jews, which has known a hot modernization in the USA since the 70’s. David Krakauer, 50 years old, throws the old shtetl music into the urban reality of America. It’s a trip as he likes them: fond of jazz, he took the path of classical music when he was 20. One day, he discovers klezmer, its loquacity, its energy, its sense of drama, its virtuosity, its romantic side: “it appeared to me as an easy music, natural, without anguish. I could hear my grandmother Yiddish accent.” With Abraham Inc., the virtuoso klezmer clarinetist works with a funk master, Fred Wesley (known for his collaborations with James Brown, Bootsy Collins and Parliament Funkadelic) and with the beat architect, Socalled. Add a brass section led by Fred Wesley and the members of Krakauer’s band Klezmer Madness!, and you’ll obtain ten musicians who’ll throw a klezmer-funk party that will take your breath away!

“… the long sobs inherited from synagogue singing turn into a swing eyed by moments towards electronic music and hip-hop. Heteroclite but really festive, while staying far from way marked footpaths.” Eliane Azoulay – Télérama
